Welcome

The 11th Frank Warren Conference of the South African Chemical Institute covering all branches of organic chemistry will be held in the city of Pietermaritzburg from the 17th to the 21st of January, 2010.

In 2010 we will be celebrating 50 years of the acclaimed specialist organic chemistry conferences, the first of which was held at Giants Castle in the Drakensburg in 1960. The conference evolved and in later years became officially known as the Frank Warren Conference in 1983.

We have a number of international speakers lined up for the conference and thus far have confirmation from Professors Richard Taylor, Stephen Pyne, Ernst Giralt, Anthony Barrett, Erick Carreira and Dennis Liotta.

In addition the 11th Frank Warren Lecture will be presented by Professor Mike Davies-Coleman from Rhodes University.

For our postgraduate students we will also be hosting a special medicinal chemistry workshop which will include chemists from GlaxoSmithKline in the UK and from South African companies. We also have the "Young Chemists Award" aimed at rewarding excellence amongst our next generation of scientists.
