As part
of the anniversary Frank Warren conference, the conference organizers
will be hosting a medicinal chemistry workshop directed towards
postgraduate students. The workshop
will comprise a mixture of scientist from South Africa as well as from
GlaxoSmithKline in the UK.

Hawa currently is a member of the immuno-inflammation
department at GSK Stevenage and will host an interactive workshop for

Professor Dennis Liotta (Emory
University, USA)
Prof. Liotta received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1974 from The
City University of New York and completed his post-doctoral training at
The Ohio State University. Dr.
Liotta has been a professor at Emory University for thirty-two years.

Dr Chris Edlin, iThemba Pharmaceuticals
Dr
Chris Edlin has been Director of Chemistry at iThemba
Pharmaceuticals (Pty) Ltd since August 2008. Prior to this he was a
Group Leader with the UK Medical Research Council Technology working
in the antimalarial, TB and Parkinson’s disease therapeutic areas.
He started his career with Rhone-Poulenc-Rorer in 1998 and moved to
Roche Discovery based in Welwyn, UK in 2000. He was a Principal
Scientist at GSK from 2002 to 2005 before joining the Medical
Research Council Technology. He holds a First Class Honours BSc
Degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Organic Chemistry, both awarded by
the University of Durham, and is the author of 19 patents and 14
scientific journal papers."

Dr Carl Montague, Deputy
CEO, Human Health, LifeLAB.
Dr Carl Montague studied for his BSc (Hons) in Biology at the University
of York, United Kingdom. His PhD research was focused on the genetics of
obesity in humans and was performed in the department of medicine at the
University of Cambridge, UK. He is currently appointed as the Executive
Portfolio Manager for Human Health of LIFElab. |
